American Rail Center Logistics state-of-the-art Hardin County Rail Logistics Center is located just south of the city of Kenton in Northwest Ohio. The HRLC is designed specifically for the unique needs of the wind industry, with heavy duty track, extra-wide clearances and a 25-acre lay down lot onsite. Construction on the HRLC was completed in December of 2011.
- Able to receive freight via any Class 1 railroad from virtually anywhere, through its rail connecting carrier, CSX.
- Located at the center of a major “hub and spoke” highway system of federal and state highways. Ohio State Routes 67, 309, 31, and 53, are all within 1 mile from our entrance. U.S. 30 – a four-lane, 65 mph, toll free highway connects to all of Ohio’s major interstates -- is just a 15-minute drive to the north.
- In the heart of wind farm development in Ohio and centrally located in the U.S. We are only a day’s drive from 60 percent of the U.S. population.
Efficient.
By using the HRLC, customers can eliminate the problems of truck driver shortages, the cost of fuel at (about) $3.95 a gallon, multi-state permits, and transport being slowed or stopped due to weather and traffic. One train can move a ton of freight nearly 500 miles on a single gallon of fuel. And a single train can carry the load of 280 trucks, according to CSX Transportation.
- Central to Ohio’s 100-plus wind parts supply chain and Ohio’s 500-plus emerging wind parts supply chain including Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo providing adequate and competitive supply.
- Able to offer competitive taxes and local tax abatements. Our local and state leaders understand the intense competition to operate and manufacture renewable energies, specifically wind. They are prepared to work with your company to address your needs and to see what programs best fit your business.
- Located within Enterprise Zone (EZ) 100C. The Ohio Enterprise Zone program is an economic development tool administered by municipal and county governments that provides real and personal property tax exemptions to businesses making investments in Ohio.
Experience a state-of-the-art terminal designed specifically for the unique needs of the wind industry, but able to easily transport all types of goods.
The HRLC:
- Can manage up to a mile-long unit train.
- Boasts 13,000 feet of new dual track running into the facility off of CSX’s mainline, while CSX upgraded about 10,000 feet of track to accommodate turbine traffic and service the logistics center.
- Houses a secure, 25-acre lay down lot to suite storage needs for that “just in time” part. The stone lot is lighted, fenced and organized.
- Uses dual tracks that are spaced apart and able to safely handle 16-foot-wide material side-by-side on adjacent receiving tracks.
- Employs heavy-duty, 136-lb.rail on 18-inch tie centers. The tracks can handle six-axle rail cars and the largest locomotives.
- Can safely handle heavy weight shock load on wheel-to-rail ratios, and extreme side thrusts and pressures within turns, curves and cross-over switches. It is well-ballasted and uniform; a tight, leveled railroad, built for the future.
- Was designed with the guidance of CSX and the Ohio Department of Transportation engineers.
